Blessing of the Patriarchal Palace

His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, blessed Monday, June 6, 2016, the Palace of the Patriarchate in Bucharest. Together with His Beatitude also served Their Graces, the Assistant Bishops to the Patriarch, Varlaam of Ploieşti and Ieronim of Sinaia, and the Very Reverend Archimandrites Paisie Teodorescu, patriarchal vicar, and Ciprian Grădinaru, servant at the Chapel of the National Cathedral.

The event took place in Europa Christiana Hall of the Palace of the Patriarchate, in the presence of the members of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

In the homily delivered on this occasion, His Beatitude referred to the historical value of the building.

We are glad to glorify God because after two years of intensive work, and with much hope and diligence, the project was completed. We rejoice that this settlement, this edifice, is daily functional once more, and that this building, built on o sight of the Metropolis of Wallachia, has a historical value, and a practical functionality. Here was once the Chamber of Deputies, which on 24 January 1859 voted in unanimity Alexandru Ioan Cuza as ruler prince of both Moldavia and Muntenia. Currently, in this building, different activities of the Romanian Patriarchate are being carried out. We have to provide this place for several years for visitation, conferences, meetings, symposia, thus combining the visitation of the Palace with some missionary, cultural and social activities of the Romanian Patriarchate, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said.

All the persons involved in the successful carrying out of the project received awards of worthiness on behalf of the Head of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

In the end, the guests watched a documentary by Trinitas TV, which presented the restoration works.

The rehabilitated building of the Patriarchal Palace will contain a museum and a tourist information point.

Rehabilitation and restoration started in March 2013 and concluded recently. The Structural Funds, under the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013, financed the project.
