Opening The Courses For Professional Degrees Of The Clergy Of The Metropolitanate Of Muntenia And Dobrudgea

Wednesday, 1 July 2015, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church was at the Metropolitan Cathedral of “Saint Spiridon the New” – patriarchal chapel, where he delivered a blessing speech for the clergy of the Metropolitanate of Muntenia and Dobrudgea who attend the courses for professional degrees in priesthood.

“The courses attended by the priests and deacons willing to improve their pastoral-missionary activity cannot ignore the issues generated especially by the phenomenon of postmodern secularisation and atheism, as well as by migration. Only if we know well the sorrows and hopes of the faithful whom we serve we can bring them closer to the Church, help them understand, support and experience the right faith and so, make them become, through the work of the Holy Spirit, good witnesses and missionaries of the Church of Christ, according to the urge of Saint John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople, and of the great shepherds of souls of the eparchies, whom the Romanian Orthodox Church does honour with solemnity and gratitude”, the Patriarch of Romania said.

Today too, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel visited the building yard of “Trimitunda” House to see the stage of construction, as well as the Church of “Saint Ecaterina” – university chapel.

Divine Liturgy and Te Deum

To start with the courses for professional degrees in priesthood, His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, celebrated the Divine Liturgy and the Te Deum service assisted by a group of priests and deacons. The clergy who attend these courses have also been present in the Cathedral.

During the Divine Liturgy, deacon Cosmin Griorescu was ordained priest for the parish of the “Aparatorii patriei 2”, deanery District 4, Bucharest.

The courses for professional degrees in priesthood will be held from 1-14 July 2015, at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of “Patriarch Justinian” of Bucharest. The courses will be closed with two examinations for the final confirmation and second degree.

The priests must prove they unfold fruitful activity in their parish, participate in the cultural-missionary activities of the deanery and in the series of pastoral-missionary and administrative conferences. They also have to publish studies, articles and sermons in many of the publications of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The priests with at least four years since the promotion of the examination for the final confirmation in priesthood enrolled for the second degree. These professional degrees help the priests transfer to higher positions or go in for higher vacant parishes or for  parishes in the cities.
