The Patriarch of Romania at the „Holy Cross” – Caraiman Monastery

Today, 16 August 2015, the 11th Sunday after Pentecost, and celebration day of the Brancovean Saints Martyrs, the faithful present at the Holy Cross – Caraiman Monastery, county of Prahova, and the monastic community were glad to have His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church as their guest.

Holy Cross – Caraiman Monastery received the visit of the Patriarch of Romania

On this Sunday, the 11th after the Pentecost, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel celebrated the Divine Liturgy, together with His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, in the summer altar of Caraiman Monastery, assisted by a group of priests and deacons.

The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church delivered a sermon in which he explained the teaching of the Evangelical parable the Church scheduled to be read today at the Divine Liturgy (Matthew 18:23-35), which presents the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant.

It is a parable of forgiveness and responsibility: "It is a Gospel fragment which shows us the merciful God, but if we neglect or disregard His mercy, then He becomes sever, just and wants to improve us through reprove, and methods of constrain, so that unless man is willing to do good right of his own will, then he will have to do it. Unless he does good free, he is obligated to do it."

The merciful love of God must be shown to other people through us

The Patriarch of Romania has also shown that when God asks us to be forgiving and merciful, He wants His merciful love spread all over the world.

"We also learn the fact that we should not stop the merciful love of God, limit it to the forgiveness that He shows us, but show it to others too. If we are forgiven, but we do not forgive others in our turn, we block the merciful love of God for us, and we do not transmit it to others as well. Thus, when God asks us to be forgiving as He is, merciful as He is, He wants his merciful love spread all over the world", His Beatitude said, according to Trinitas Radio station.

Forgiveness is a great blessing because it changes the relationships among humans

His Beatitude has also underlined the positive results of forgiveness over the life of the faithful.

"Forgiveness is a great blessing because it changes the relations among people. It means a new beginning; it means that we recognize that the value of a person is greater than the mistake made willingly or not at a certain time. Forgiveness is the rehabilitation of the person who made a mistake and beginning of a new relation, but forgiveness is not given easy when somebody did much harm to us, humiliated us, and this is why in order to forgive our inner change is needed", the Patriarch of Romania said, according to Trinitas TV.

Constantin Brancoveanu is the measure of the Romanian dignity at the time of trial

The Patriarch of Romania has also spoken about the martyrdom of the Brancovean Saints Martyrs. The Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church has shown that for us, the Romanians, Constantin Brancoveanu is the measure of the Romanian Dignity at time of trial.

"The ruling prince Constantin Brancoveanu had a very strong faith. After all his fortune was taken away, he realized that he could avoid death, together with his four sons if they became Muslims, if they passed to the Turkish law, when that proposal was made to him. He refused. He preferred to die for Christ than save his life giving up his ancient faith. This is why for us, the Romanians, Constantin Brancoveanu is the measure of the Romanian dignity at time of trial. It would have been very easy for him to escape if he had betrayed his faith and people, but he wanted to be faithful to God and to his people, so that he preferred a martyr's death", His Beatitude said.

Caraiman Monastery – a centre designed to help children not abandon school

To end with the Divine Liturgy at Caraiman Monastery, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel underlined the activity unfolded at the "Holy Cross" – Caraiman Social Pastoral Centre.

"We congratulate all the pilgrims, the benefactors of this Holy Monastery which has become in quite a short time a centre of conferences, and especially centre of aiding the children not abandon school. This summer over 800 children were and others will come here, to this monastery, till 11 September, where free time is combined with artistic – educational work and where they learn to love school more. This activity is part of a programme of the Romanian Patriarchate entitled "Choose school!" for preventing school abandon", His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church said.

Sunday of the Romanian Immigrants

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church decided that the first Sunday after the feast of the Falling Asleep of the Mother of God should be dedicated to the Romanian immigrants.

"We pray for our brothers and sisters who work or study abroad to keep the right faith, the Romanian communion, to go to the churches in the countries where they are, because the Romanian Patriarchate has set up several eparchies outside the country. Today we have 13 eparchies abroad, 850 priests and lots of communities, new parishes set up in order to keep our ancient Orthodox faith, the Romanian language and spirituality", His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church said.

Holy Cross – Caraiman Monastery – The beginning of the building of this monastic settlement dates from 1998. The monastery was set up at the initiative of the late protosingel Gherontie Puiu, one of the worthy Romanian monks consulted with much love by faithful. On 29 June 2000, the feast of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles, the late Patriarch Teoctist approved the setting up of Caraiman Skete dedicated to the "Exultation of the Holy Cross". There followed the construction of the wooden church dedicated to the "Protection of the Mother of God". On 21 October 2001, the wooden church was consecrated and the foundation stone was laid for building the new brick church dedicated to the "Exaltation of the Holy Cross", consecrated by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel on 14 September 2014.
