Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Bucharest

Saturday, 13 February 2016, the working session of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Bucharest was held at the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

His Grace Varlaam Ploieşteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, His Grace Ieronim Sinaitul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, and His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest attended.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, President of the Eparchial Assembly, presented the synthesis report on the activity unfolded in 2015: “The most important social-philanthropic project of the Eparchial Centre was implemented in 2015 through the setting up of 6 social canteens of the deaneries of the 6 districts of Bucharest. As a result of the cooperation between local authorities and the deaneries of Bucharest, four social canteens have already been blessed and are operating (Saint Ana, Deanery District II; Saint Mary, Deanery District III; Social canteen of the Deanery District V; and Barnabas House, Deanery District VI), while the other ones are in process of being organised. The units of social and medical assistance of the Eparchial Centre are the following: 1. Saint Nectarie Centre of Palliative Care; 2. Patriarch Justinian Social Settlement; 3. Pasărea Old People’s Home; 4. Saint Martyr Sofia Daily Centre for Children; 5. Medical-social Canteen of the Eparchial Centre; 6. Vasiliada Social Pharmacy in Bucharest; 7. Saint Hierarch Nicholas Hospitality Centre in Câmpina.

Then, the eparchial activity unfolded last year has been analysed and evaluated in commissions and the reports of the commissions on the activity of the Archdiocese of Bucharest in 2015 were submitted for approval and priorities for 2016 were established.

The working session of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Bucharest was preceded by a Te Deum service celebrated in the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul.

The Eparchial Assembly is the deliberative body for all administrative, cultural, social-philanthropic, economic and patrimonial issues of the eparchy. It is made up of 30 representatives of the clergy and of the laity.
