The Church Supports the families of the Romanians Deceased in Italy. Urgent Financial Aid at the Initiative of the Patriarch of Romania

Following the initiative of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, during the meeting held on 1 September 2016, the members of the Standing Committee of the Church National Council approved that 3,000 lei should be granted to each Romanian mourning family in Italy. Thus, each family of the 11 Romanians who lost their lives during the earthquake will receive financial support on behalf of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The Romanian Orthodox Church has been together with the Romanians affected by the earthquake ever since the first hours of the disaster. The Patriarch of Romania addressed a message of compassion to the Italian people, through the Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy has been supporting the Romanians affected by earthquake through His Grace Siluan, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Italy, and the Romanian Orthodox priests of the peninsula. On 26 August 2016, the Eparchy of Italy organised a fund raising campaign for helping the Romanians in need. His Grace has also been present Sunday, 28 August 2016, in the hospital of Rieti, Italy, where several Romanians were hospitalised. The same day, the solemn commemoration service was celebrated for the Romanians fallen asleep in the Lord as the result of the earthquake.

The prayers and aid of the Romanians is being continued in the Romanian Patriarchate. Today, 2 September 2016, a solemn commemoration service was celebrated, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest, for the victims of the earthquake occurred in Italy.
