National Church Assembly

The National Church Assembly is the central deliberative body of the Romanian Orthodox Church for administrative, social, cultural, economic and patrimonial matters (art. 19 of the Statute).

The National Church Assembly is composed of three representatives from each diocese, one cleric and two laypersons, delegated by the diocesan Assemblies in the country and around the borders, for a term of 4 years. They may be delegated for a maximum of two terms. The hierarchs of the Holy Synod participate in the work of the National Church Assembly.

The President of the National Assembly is the Patriarch of Romania. In the absence of the Patriarch of Romania, the meetings shall be chaired in the order laid down in art. 12 para Paragraph (2) of the Statute. The decisions of the National Church Assembly become executory after their ratification by the Holy Synod (Art. 20 of the Statute).
