The Standing Synod

The Standing Synod is the central deliberative body which functions between sessions of the Holy Synod, when the importance of certain matters requires their consideration without delay.

The Standing Synod is made up of the Patriarch of Romania and all the acting metropolitans of the dioceses in the country and abroad. The Standing Synod also includes 3 other diocesan hierarchs (one archbishop and 2 bishops) appointed annually by the Holy Synod.

The President of the Standing Synod is the Patriarch of Romania. In the absence of the Patriarch, the meetings of the Standing Synod are chaired in the order laid down in art. 12 Paragraph (2) of the Statute. The President shall convene the Standing Synod, specifying the agenda, whenever necessary.

The Secretary of the Holy Synod is also the Secretary of the Standing Synod (Art. 17 of the Statute).
