Annual Meeting Of The Church National Council

Today, 3 February 2015, the annual working session of the Church National Council of the Romanian Orthodox Church was held at the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

To start with, the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church made a brief presentation of the last year activities.

“The activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church unfolded in 2014 was crowned with many achievements in the pastoral-liturgical, cultural-missionary, and social-philanthropic fields, and sustained with much devotion by hierarchs, clergy and laics, young and old, sensitive to other people’s sufferance and willing to bring light and hope, joy and comfort in the souls of those in distress being in this way the hands of Christ’s merciful love. We express our warm thanks to all those who help our Church in her missionary work, especially during this prolonged period of crisis. We pray God to give good health and salvation, help and joy to all those who love the Church of Christ within the Romanian people and support her activity of confession and service, through word and deed, of the merciful love of Christ for humans”, His Beatitude said.

The members of the Church National Council analysed the activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2014 in regard to the pastoral-missionary and social-philanthropic fields, the monastic life, theological education and teaching of religion in public schools, the printing editorial and mass-media fields, the church cultural patrimony, construction of new places of worship, relations with other religious cults, care for the Romanian Orthodox communities abroad, inter-church and inter-religious relations, etc.

The Church National Council is the central executive body of the Holy Synod and of the Church National Assembly, made up of 12 members of the Church National Assembly, one clergy and one lay person representing each Metropolitanate of the country, assigned for four years time and two mandates at last.
