On 12 May 2016, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania opened the National Conference entitled „Dogmatic unity and national specificity in church painting”. The event was held at the Patriarchal Palace. The theme of the 4th such encounter is Continuity and novelty in religious art, with lectures delivered by architects, historians of art, painters, restorers, disciples and students from Romania.
The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church transmitted a message entitled Continuity and novelty in the religious art and told the participants that: “Tradition is not a simple repetition, but renewed fidelity”.
“We are glad because you answered our call and wish you blessed and useful work. May you transmit through art the joy of faith, of communion, tradition, continuity and novelty as dynamics of tradition! Tradition is not a simple repetition, but renewed fidelity. It is a dynamic process keeping the spiritual identity the same as a person grows, and develops, but remain the same person at all ages”, His Beatitude underlined.
The event continued with the opening of an exhibition presenting 20 posters which showed the activity of the Church Painting Commission and the importance of religious art in the contemporary space.
The conference session ended on 13 May 2016.
