The day of 29 July is of great importance for the Romanian people, as it is dedicated to the national anthem of Romania entitled Wake up, Romanian!
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel has often underlined the duty of the faithful to honour the national symbols and values of the Romanian nation:celebrating the great symbols and values of the Romanian nation is a permanent duty of all of us!
As Patriarch Daniel has repeatedly said, the national anthem entitledWake up, Romanian!, as well as the language, culture and ancient faith of the Romanian people is an incentive to keep and cultivate the national identity:
The national anthem, together with other national symbols: the Romanian flag, the Coat of Arms of the country, and the National day urges us to keep and cultivate the sense of national identity, which is intimate to every person and depends on how every person can assume one’s most important identifying points of reference: language, culture and faith.
The Patriarch of Romania urges all Romanians to observe and promotethe symbols of our national unity and identity as they are the result of much effort and sacrifices of our forerunners:
We ought to respect, keep, and promote the symbols of our national unity and identity as symbols of the dignity of the Romanian people, acquired with the price of sacrificing many human lives and much spiritual and material effort, for the welfare of Romania and joy of the Romanians from everywhere.
