His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, officiated the Akathist Hymn to our Lord Jesus Christ at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, at the turn of the year. An assembly of priests and deacons surrounded the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church and prayed together with hundreds of faithful.
In his homily, the Romanian Patriarch emphasized the fact that the year that we have just entered is another gift of God, and that is why, in this moments, at the turn of the year, we have to meditate more on what does the gift of time mean for the life of people.
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel also noted that we could acquire salvation in an instant by repentance, or lose it if death finds us spiritually unprepared, i.e. apart from God by unfaith and bad deeds.
“Time represents the most precious gift of our life, and we are granted two ways of spending it for salvation: in prayer and repentance for our sins, as redemption of lost time; in prayer and good deeds as fructification and sanctification of time. When we recognize that we have lost a lot of time apart from God, we can only return to Him, before we pass away”, His Beatitude said.
