The Vernissage of the Exhibition of “Saint John Chrysostom – the Lyre of the Holy Spirit”

This evening, 12 November 2015, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, was present at the vernissage of “Saint John Chrysostom – Lyre of the Holy Spirit” exhibition of manuscripts and old books, held at the Holy Synod Library, in the precincts of Antim Monastery in Bucharest.

On this occasion, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said: “Saint John Chrysostom is a theologian of healing the sin disease. Beyond any mathematic or temporary calculation, Saint John has a surprising freedom of thought and creativity. Fairly often his ideas are expressed in very beautiful formulas easy to remember. Saint John Chrysostom is a fine connoisseur of the human soul and heals it on the basis of the words of the Holy Scriptures. He has much spiritual advice expressed in concise, often poetic form. We must read his works and if we do not find them in the Romanian language we can browse the older manuscripts in order to read them more attentively. When a book is translated from one language into another, the text must be read with great attention”.

Besides the Patriarch of Romania, His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, was also present at the exhibition.

The most recent editions of the writings of Saint John Chrysostom in the Romanian language can be seen at the exhibition. The event held this evening is part of the series of manifestations occasioned by the Commemorative Year of Saint John Chrysostom and of the great spiritual shepherds in eparchies.
