BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

• He was born on 17 May 1953, son of Nicolae and Elena Stângă, in Constantin Brâncoveanu village, Ialomița County. He was baptized Gheorghe.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• 1960-1968 – Attends secondary school in his native village;
• 1968-1972 – student at the Theoretical High School in Slobozia, Ialomița County;
• 1972-1976 – studies at the Orthodox High School Theological Seminary in Bucharest;
• 1976 – he was ordained in the Crasna Hermitage, Prahova County;
• 1976-1980 – he is a monk and a hieromonk at Crasna Hermitage, Prahova County;
• 1976-1977 – military service;
• 1977-1981 – studies at the University Theological Institute in Bucharest;
• 6 November 1977 – was tonsured into monasticism at Crasna Hermitage, Prahova County;
• October 1978 – ordained deacon by His Eminence Antonie of Ploiești, Patriarchal Assistant-Vicar, and on 2 November 1978 ordained hieromonk by His Grace Roman of Ialomița, Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop, at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest;
• 1 April 1980 – elected abbot of the Crasna Hermitage, Prahova County;
• 1983 – elevated to the rank of protosyncellus by His Grace Vasile of Târgoviște, at the chapel of Antim Monastery in Bucharest;
• October 1985 – March 1986 – attends courses at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey (Switzerland);
• 1 November 1990 – appointed exarch of the monasteries of the Archdiocese of Bucharest;
• 4 July 1996 – elected Bishop of Alexandria and Teleorman, ordained Archbishop on September 1, 1996 by His Beatitude Patriarch Theoctist at the Cathedral of St. Alexandru in Alexandria and enthroned as Bishop of Alexandria and Teleorman.
