BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 20 April 1969, son of Gabriel and Aurica Meleacă, in Scorțeni, Prahova County. He was baptized Valentin.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1983-1987 – He attended high school at High School No. 1 in Câmpina, Prahova County;
  • 1990 – He joins Crasna Monastery, Prahova County;
  • 1991 – is tonsured a monk by Archim. Galaction Stângă, at Crasna Monastery, Prahova County;
  • 1992 – he was ordained a hieromonk and then a hieromonk by His Grace Teofan of Sinai, Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop, at Crasna Monastery, Prahova County;
  • 1992-1996 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Justinian the Patriarch” in Bucharest;
  • 1997-1999 – follows MA studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Justinian the Patriarch” in Bucharest, specializing in Doctrine and Culture;
  • 1998 – ordained as a protosyncellus by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist, at the Darvari Skete in Bucharest;
  • 1999-2005 – he attends doctoral courses at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the “Aristotle” University of Thessaloniki (Greece), graduating with a thesis entitled: Historical Consideration of the Causes and Consequences of the Union of the Transylvanian Orthodox Church with the Roman Catholic Church, receiving the arista honour;
  • 4 October 2000 – elected Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop, with the title of Sinai;
  • 14 October 2000 – ordained archimandrite, then ordained Bishop on 15 October 2000, by His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church;
  • 8 February 2006 – he was elected Bishop of the Diocese of Giurgiu by the Electoral College of the Church, being enthroned on 9 April 2006, in the Episcopal Cathedral of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Giurgiu, by His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
