BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 22 November 1967, son of Nicolae and Maria Moldovan, in Chețani, Mureș County. He was baptized Nicolae.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1974-1982 – attended secondary school in his native Chețani, Mureș County;
  • 1982-1986 – student at the Industrial High School in the town of Iernut, Mureș County;
  • 8 September 1988 – joins the monastery of Toplița, Harghita County;
  • 19 July 1990 – he enters the monastic life at Toplița Monastery, and on 20 July 1990 he is ordained hieromonk by His Eminence Antonie Plămădeală, Metropolitan of Transylvania (Ardeal);
  • 21 November 1990 – he was ordained hieromonk at Toplița Monastery, and on 29 November 1990 he was ordained spiritual father by His Eminence Andrei Andreicuț, Bishop of Alba Iulia;
  • 10 August 1995 – was appointed abbot at Făgețel Monastery, Harghita County, by His Eminence the Ioan Selejan, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita;
  • 1996-2000 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Justinian the Patriarch” in Bucharest, obtaining a BA degree in Theology with the thesis: Funerary Rites from the Geto-Dacians to the Present Day;
  • 29 August 1999 – he was ordained a protosyncellus, and on 29 August 2006 he was ordained an archimandrite by His Grace Ioan, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita;
  • 2002-2005 – attends post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the “Aristotle” University of Thessaloniki (Greece);
  • 1 October 2005 – appointed Exarch of the monasteries of the Diocese of Covasna and Harghita;
  • 9 July 2008 – he is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sibiu, with the title of Făgărășeanul, being ordained on 15 August 2008 at the Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, by Eminence Laurențiu Streza, Metropolitan of Transylvania (Ardeal), together with a group of hierarchs (His Eminence Irineu, Metropolitan of Oltenia, His Eminence Serafim, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Germany, Central and Northern Europe, His Eminence Ioan, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita and His Grace Paisie Lugojeanul, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Timișoara);
  • 2013-2015 – attends the doctoral courses of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “St. Andrei Șaguna” in Sibiu, under the guidance of Archdeacon Prof. Dr. Ioan I. Ică jr., preparing a thesis entitled: The Spirituality of St. George of Cernica (1730-1806);
  • 5 February 2015 – was elected Bishop of the Orthodox Diocese of Covasna and Harghita by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, being installed in the Episcopal Cathedral of Miercurea-Ciuc, by His Eminence Laurențiu, Metropolitan of Transylvania (Ardeal), on 15 February 2015.
