BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 18 November 1957, son of Ioan and Ana Dumitriu, in the municipality of Jassy. He was baptized with the name Constantin.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1964-1974 – attends the first 10 grades at “Ion Creangă” Secondary School no. 2 in Jassy;
  • 1974-1978 – is a pupil at the Electrotechnical High School no. 1 in Jassy;
  • 1978-1980 – fulfils the military service;
  • March, 1980 – enters the monastic life at Putna Monastery, Suceava County, where he fulfils several ministries: steward-assistant, museographer, minister, high ecclesiarch, etc.;
  • 1984 – is tonsured a monk with the name Calinic, at Putna Monastery, Suceava County;
  • 1985-1989 – studies at the Theological Institute of University Degree in Sibiu, graduating in 1989 with a bachelor’s thesis entitled: Parabolele lui Iisus, de Joachim Jeremias (The Parables of Jesus, by Joachim Jeremias), (translation from English) having Rev. Fr. Prof. dr. Vasile Mihoc as supervisor;
  • 14 May 1986 – is ordained hierodeacon in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Jassy, for Putna Monastery, by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist (at that time Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina);
  • October 1990 – is appointed abbot of the Râșca Monastery, Suceava County, by His Eminence Daniel, Metropolitan of Moldova and Bucovina;
  • 25 January 1991 – is elected by the Holy Synod, at the proposal of His All-His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel, as Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese of Jassy, with the title of Botoșani (Botoșăneanul), the appointment being confirmed by the Decree no. 16 of 15 March 1991;
  • 25 March 1991 – he is ordained bishop in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Jassy, by His Eminence Daniel, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, assisted by other hierarchs (His Eminence Pimen Zainea, Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți, His Grace Eftimie Luca, Bishop of Roman and Huși);
  • 1992-1995 – studies privately at the Faculty of Medical Studies “Academia Mihăileană“;
  • 1994-1998 – attends the Faculty of Law of “Petre Andrei” University of Jassy, graduating with a bachelor’s thesis entitled: Aspecte de drept comparat, comunitar şi internaţional privind transplantul de organe (Aspects of comparative, communitarian and international law on organ transplantation), at the Department of International Law, his scientific advisor being Prof. Dr. Constantin Andronovici. The thesis was awarded the maximum grade;
  • 14 May 1998 – defends his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Philosophy of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Jassy, Department of History of Philosophy and Axiology, specialization History of Philosophy, with the interdisciplinary theme entitled: Tanatologia în proiecţiile sale teologice şi filosofice (Thanatology in its theological and philosophical projections), under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Petre Dumitrescu. The thesis received the grade magna cum laude honor;
  • 28 December 2004 – defends his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Philosophy of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Jassy, “Petre BotezatuDepartment of Logic and Systematic Philosophy, specialization Epistemology and Philosophy of Science, with the interdisciplinary theme Logica Trinităţii (The Logic of the Trinity), under the supervision of acad. Teodor Dima. The thesis received the grade magna cum laude honor;
  • 21 July 2020 – is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți, being enthroned on 26 July 2020, by His Eminence Teofan Savu, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, alongside several hierarchs, in the Monastery Saint John the New in Suceava.
