BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 19 April 1965, son of Ecaterina and Constantin Spiridon, in the village of Suhuleț, Tansa commune, Jassy county. He was baptized, receiving the name Cezar.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1982-1987 – attends high school at the Theological Seminary “Chesarie Episcopul” in Buzău;
  • 1987-1988 – fulfills the military service at the IVth Mechanized Regiment “Voievodul Gelu” from Zalău, Sălaj County;
  • 1988-1992 – studies at the Theological Institute of University Level/Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Justinian the Patriarch” of the University of Bucharest;
  • 13 September 1992 – is tonsured a monk, then ordained hierodeacon on 14 September 1992, by His Grace Father Nifon of Ploiești, Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop, at Crasna Monastery, Prahova County;
  • 1992-1998 – attends doctoral studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the “Aristoteleion” University of Thessaloniki (Greece);
  • 1998-1999 – attends post-doctoral studies in Byzantinology at the Ecumenical Institute “San Nicola” in Bari (Italy);
  • 1999-2000 – serves as diocesan inspector in the Patriarchal Administration;
  • 21 May 2000 – is ordained hieromonk and made protosyncellus by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist, at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest;
  • 2000-2002 – Patriarchal Counsellor within the Church and Society Department;
  • 2 April 2002 – is elevated to the rank of archimandrite by His Beatitude Patriarch Theoctist, at Antim Monastery in Bucharest;
  • 22 September 2002 – is ordained bishop by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist, at the Saint Spyridon – New Cathedral in Bucharest, as Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop with responsibilities for coordinating the departments Church and Interreligious Relations, External Communities, Theological Educational and Social Philanthropic (2002-2010), Church Cultural Heritage (2006-2010) and The Office of the Holy Synod (2009-2013);
  • 2009-2013 – Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church;
  • 28 February 2013 – is elected Archbishop of Buzău and Vrancea, being enthroned on 10 March 2013, in the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Buzău.
