BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 21 November 1959, son of Pavel and Sevastița, in Brăiești, Buzău County. He was baptised Ion.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1966-1974 – attended primary and secondary school in Poiana Țapului, Bușteni, Prahova County;
  • 1974-1976 – attended high school in Sinaia, Prahova County;
  • 1976-1981 – attended the Orthodox Theological Seminary in Bucharest;
  • 1982-1986 – studies at the Theological Institute of University Level in Bucharest, obtaining the BA degree in Theology with the thesis entitled Mother of God and Her Expression in the Cult and Iconography of the Church;
  • 20 July 1986 – is received at the Monastery of Bistrița, Neamț County;
  • 6 September 1986 – is tonsured rasophore by His Grace Pimen of Suceava, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Jassy;
  • 2 January 1987 – takes monastic vows;
  • 1 February 1987 – is ordained hierodeacon, and on 2 February 1987 – is ordained hieromonk and ordained spiritual father in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Jassy;
  • 25 December 1990 – elevated to the rank of protosyncellus in the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest;
  • 1990-1994 – performs the office of high ecclesiarch of the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest;
  • 1992-1993 – attends courses in the “Winter Session” at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey, University of Geneva (Switzerland), concluded with the work Theophanies of the Bible. Study for a Greater Inclusiveness of the Use of Sacred Images in the Life of the Churches;
  • 10 April 1994 – elevated to the rank of archimandrite by His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church;
  • 5 August 1994 – appointed by His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, as superior of the Romanian Settlements in Jerusalem and Jordan and representative of the Romanian Patriarchate to the Holy Places, a position he held until 2014;
  • 29 November 2009 – elected Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church;
  • 2009-2012 – attends doctoral courses at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Craiova, specialising in Universal Church History, under the guidance of Rev. Prof. Dr. Constantin Pătuleanu;
  • 12 July 2012 – defends his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Craiova, entitled Christianity in the Holy Land from the Arab Conquest to the First Crusade (7th-11th Centuries);
  • 29 May 2014 – he is ordained Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest;
  • 5 July 2022 – he is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the vacant episcopal see of Bishop of Dacia Felix (Serbia), being enthroned on 19 July 2022, in the Cathedral of Vârșeț.
