BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 4 March 1955, son of parents Nicolae and Marta Urs, in Recea, Brasov County. He was baptized Ioan.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1961-1969 – attended primary school in his native Recea, Brașov County;
  • 1970-1973 – student at the Professional School of Car Parts, Sibiu;
  • 1977-1981 – studies at IPAS Industrial High School, Sibiu;
  • 12 August 1983 – enters the Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County;
  • 1983-2000 – fulfils the duty of steward at the Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County;
  • 12 November 1984 – was tonsured into monasticism at Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, with the name Ilarion, by Father Archimandrite Veniamin Tohăneanu;
  • 17 November 1984 – He is ordained hierodeacon for Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, by His Eminence Antonie Plămădeală, Metropolitan of Transylvania, in the Metropolitan Cathedral in Sibiu;
  • 1985-1989 – he is a student at the Theological Institute of University Level in Sibiu, which he graduates with a bachelor’s thesis entitled: “Monasticism in the Early Christian Ages” (“Monahismul în primele veacuri creștine”);
  • 15 August 1987 – ordained a hieromonk at Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, by His Eminence Serafim Făgărășeanul, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sibiu;
  • 10 July 1992 – he is consecrated as a spiritual father at Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, by His Eminence Serafim Făgărășeanul, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sibiu;
  • 15 August 1994 – he is elevated to the rank of protosyncellus by His Eminence Antonie Plămădeală, Metropolitan of Transylvania;
  • 15 August 1998 – ordained as an archimandrite by His Eminence Antonie Plămădeală, Metropolitan of Transylvania;
  • 7 December 2000-1 August 2016 – Abbot of Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County;
  • 2014-2015 – serves as Exarch of the monasteries of the Diocese of Sibiu;
  • 3 June 2015 – elected Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sibiu, with the title of Făgărășeanul (of Făgăraș), by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, being ordained on 7 June at Brâncoveanu Monastery – Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, by His Eminence Laurențiu Streza, Metropolitan of Ardeal.
