BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 14 November 1951, son of Ioan and Ilca Selejan, in Pietrani, Bihor County. He was baptized Ioan.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1958-1962 – attended primary school in his native village Pietrani, Bihor County;
  • 1962-1966 – secondary school in Pocola, Bihor County;
  • 1966-1971 – student at “Constantin Brâncuși” High School in Oradea;
  • 1972-1976 – studies at the Faculty of Installations and Automation in Bucharest;
  • 1980 – he joined Lainici Monastery, Gorj County;
  • 1981-1986 – student of the Orthodox High Theological Seminary in Craiova;
  • 1986-1990 – studies at the University Theological Institute in Sibiu;
  • 6 August 1990 – was ordained hieromonk at Lainici Monastery, Gorj County, and on 15 August 1990 was ordained hieromonk at Tismana Monastery, Gorj County, by His Eminence Nestor Vornicescu, Metropolitan of Oltenia;
  • 1990-1994 – was appointed abbot of Lainici Monastery, Gorj County, by His Eminence Nestor Vornicescu, Metropolitan of Oltenia;
  • 1991-1994 – Attends in parallel two doctoral courses at the Biblical Institute of Jerusalem (Israel), in Biblical Studies and Egyptology and Orientalistics;
  • 1994 – ordained archimandrite by His Eminence Nestor Vornicescu, Metropolitan of Oltenia, and appointed Superior of the Romanian Settlements in Jerusalem;
  • 12 July 1994 – he is elected Bishop of the newly founded Diocese of Harghita and Covasna, being ordained on 20 July 1994, at the Monastery of St. Elijah the Prophet in Toplița, Harghita County, by His Eminence Antonie Plămădeală, Metropolitan of Ardeal;
  • 25 September 1994 – was enthroned as Bishop of Covasna and Harghita in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Miercurea-Ciuc, by His Eminence Antonie Plămădeală, Metropolitan of Transylvania (Ardeal);
  • 18-19 June – elevated to the rank of Archbishop during the working session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, held at the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel;
  • 23 August 2009 – was ordained Archbishop by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Miercurea Ciuc;
  • 16 December 2014 – elected Archbishop of Timișoara and Metropolitan of Banat, being enthroned on 28 December 2014 by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Timișoara.
