BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 20 February 1969, son of priest Ioan and Mariana Tunaru, in Comănești, Bacău County. He received the baptism name of Livius-Ionel.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1975-1983 – attends primary and secondary school in Comănești, Bacău county;
  • 1983-1987 – pupil at the Industrial High School in Comănești, Bacău County;
  • 1989-1993 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology „Andrei Saguna” in Sibiu;
  • 1993-1994 – attends courses in Ancient Greek at the Pontifical College “Flagelazione” in Jerusalem (Israel);
  • 1994-1995 – attends introductory courses in Christian art and iconography at the Saint John the Baptist Monastery of in Jerusalem (Israel);
  • 1994 – 1995 – attends French language courses at the “Alliance Française” Language Institute, Jerusalem (Israel);
  • 1995 – is tonsured into monasticism with the blessing of His Beatitude Serafim, Metropolitan of Germany, Central and Northern Europe, living in the monasteries: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Chevetogne (Belgium), Saint Dominic of Silos, Burgos (Spain) and the Monastic Community of Bose (Italy);
  • 1995-1998 – studies at the Faculty of Theology and the Institute of Monastic History and Spirituality within the Pontifical University “Saint Anselm of Canterbury” and at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome (Italy);
  • 1998-2001 – Conductor of the Byzantine Youth Choir of Paris (France);
  • 1998-2002 – Editor of the Saint John Cassian Bulletin, Paris (France);
  • 23 June 2001 – is ordained a hierodeacon, and on 24 June 2001 he is ordained a hieromonk in Paris, for the The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Monastery in Rochefort-Montagne (France), by His Eminence Iosif, Metropolitan of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Central and Southern Europe;
  • 2003-2006 – editor of Saint Nicholas Bulletin, New York (USA);
  • 2004 – is elevated to the rank of archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of the Americas;
  • 2 March 2006 – is elected Assistant-Bishop of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of the Americas, by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, with the title of Vicina, and on 2 July 2006 is ordained in Chicago (USA) by His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe;
  • 2009-2011 – MA at the Faculty of Theology of the “Concordia” University in Montreal (Canada);
  • 28 October 2016 – is elected Bishop of the newly established Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Canada by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, being enthroned on 7 May 2017 in Saint George Church in Saint Hubert, Montreal (Canada), by His Eminence Nicolae, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of the Americas.
