BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 11 January 1980 in the town of Vălenii de Munte, Prahova County, son of Ion and Anișoara Petre. He received the baptism name of Nicolae.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1988-1996 – pupil at the “Romea Constantinescu” School in his native town, Vălenii de Munte, Prahova County;
  • 1996-2001 – attends the Monastic Theological Seminary “Episcop Chesarie Păunescu” at the Cernica Monastery, Ilfov County;
  • 2 July 2000 – is tonsured a monk at the Crasna Monastery, receiving the name Nectarie;
  • 1 October 2000 – is ordained hierodeacon by His Grace Galaction, Bishop of Alexandria and Teleorman;
  • 2002-2006 – studies at the “Saint Serge” Institute of Orthodox Theology in Paris (France);
  • 23 July 2006 – he is ordained hieromonk by His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe;
  • 2006-2008 – He is pursuing a Master’s degree at the “Saint Serge” Institute of Orthodox Theology in Paris (France);
  • 2008-2012 – attends doctoral studies at the “Saint Serge” Institute of Orthodox Theology in Paris (France), finalised by the defence of the thesis entitled: Le sacrement de la pénitence – l’histoire du rite en Roumanie et sa théologie dans l’Eglise Orthodoxe (The sacrament of penance – the history of the rite in Romania and its theology in the Orthodox Church), under the guidance of Rev. Prof. Dr. Nicolas Ozoline;
  • 5 April 2013 – is elevated to the rank of protosyncellus by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest;
  • 2017-2023 – fulfils the duties of Exarch of the Monasteries of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Western Europe;
  • 18 March 2018 – is elevated to the rank of archimandrite by His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe;
  • 4 July 2023 – is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as Assistant-Bishop of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Western Europe, with the title of Bretania being consecrated bishop on 16 September 2023 by His Eminence Iosif, Metropolitan of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Western and Southern Europe, together with several hierarchs, in the Orthodox Cathedral of Saints Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael in Paris.
  • 25 October 2024 – is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Ireland and Iceland.
