BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 24 October 1971, son of parents Florea and Milica Ion, in Curtea de Argeș, Argeș County. He was baptized Gheorghe.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1978-1986 – attended Secondary School in his native Curtea de Argeș, Argeș County;
  • 1986-1990 – student at the Agro-Industrial High School in Curtea de Argeș, Argeș County;
  • 1991-1997 – studies at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Timișoara, specializing in Veterinary Food Sanitary Control;
  • 1997-2001 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at the West University of Timișoara, specializing in Pastoral Orthodox Theology;
  • 5 August 1999 – he was tonsured into monasticism at the Episcopal Cathedral of Gyula (Hungary), and on 6 August 1999 he was ordained hierodeacon by His Grace Sofronie, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Hungary;
  • 7 August 1999 – ordained a hieromonk by His Grace Sofronie, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Hungary;
  • 2001-2006 – Superior of the Episcopal Chapel in Bichiș (Hungary);
  • 2002-2006 – serves as ecclesiarch of the Episcopal Cathedral in Gyula (Hungary);
  • 22 January 2003 – elevated to the rank of protosyncellus by His Grace Sofronie, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Hungary, at the Episcopal Cathedral in Gyula (Hungary);
  • 2003-2006 – fulfils the offices of the Romanian-language diocesan secretary of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Hungary and missionary priest for other parishes of the diocese;
  • 2003-2006 – works as a Religion teacher in the parish of Otlaca Pustă (Hungary);
  • 9 February 2006 – was elected Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Timișoara, with the title Lugojanul (of Lugoj), being ordained on 19 February 2006 in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Timișoara, by His Eminence Nicolae Corneanu, Metropolitan of Banat;
  • Since 2007 he has been in charge of the theological education in Timișoara, being for a period an associate lecturer at the Department of Orthodox Theology of the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of the West University of Timișoara, for the subjects of Spiritual and Liturgical Formation and Patrology;
  • Since 2008 he is a candidate for a doctoral degree at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Mitropolitul Andrei Șaguna” in Sibiu, at the Department of Liturgical Theology, under the guidance of His Eminence Laurențiu, Metropolitan of Transylvania (Ardeal).
