BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 5 November 1966, son of Gheorghe and Maria Pașcanu, in Moreni, Dâmbovița County. He was baptized Sorin Petrică.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1973-1981 – attended primary and secondary school in Minieri Village, Prahova County;
  • 1981-1983 – first grade at the Economic High School in Ploiești;
  • 1983-1988 – student at the Orthodox High School Theological Seminary at Neamț Monastery, Neamț County;
  • 1988 – was tonsured into monasticism and ordained hieromonk at the Crasna Monastery, Prahova County, by His Grace Nifon of Ploiești, Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop;
  • 1988-1992 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Justinian the Patriarch” in Bucharest;
  • 1992-1997 – attends doctoral courses in Thessaloniki (Greece), obtaining the PhD in Liturgics with a thesis entitled: Romanian Liturgical Theology in the 20th Century (Teologia liturgică românească în secolul XX;);
  • 1996 – ordained a hieromonk at the Crasna Monastery, Prahova County, by His Grace Teodosie of Snagov, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest;
  • 1996-1999 – he fulfils the task of abbot of the Crasna Hermitage, Prahova County;
  • 1997-2001 – he holds the position of exarch of the monasteries of the Archdiocese of Bucharest;
  • October 1998 – elevated to the rank of protosyncellus at Crasna Monastery, Prahova County, by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist;
  • 27 September 2000 – ordained archimandrite at Antim Monastery in Bucharest, by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist;
  • 2001 – was elected Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, with the title of Ilfoveanul (of Ilfov), being ordained on 25 March by His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist at the Cathedral of Saint Spyridon the New in Bucharest, coordinating the work of the following sectors for seven years: Diocesan Secretariat, Ecclesiastical Administrative, Economic, Monuments and Church Buildings, Eparchial Inspectorate, Household Administrative, as well as the Candle Factory, the Church Store, the Holy Archdiocese Households, the Students’ Canteen, the Students’ Residence and the Priests’ Residence, directly taking care of the restoration and modernization works of most of their locations;
  • 2008 – he was elected Bishop of the newly established Diocese of Slatina and Romanați and enthroned on 25 March, by His Eminence Teofan Savu, Metropolitan of Oltenia, at the Maica Domnului (the Mother of God) Church in Slatina.
