BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

• He was born on 12 December 1955, son of Procopie and Elisabeta Petrescu, in Vatra Dornei, Suceava County. At his baptism he received the name Macedon.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• 1962-1969 – attends primary and secondary school in Dorna Arini, Suceava County;
• 1969-1970 – continued his studies at the secondary school in Vatra Dornei, Suceava County;
• 1970-1975 – attends high school at the Monastic Theological Seminary in Neamț Monastery;
• 1975-1976 – fulfils military service at the military unit in Plenița, Dolj County;
• 1976-1980 – studies at the Theological Institute of University Level in Bucharest;
• 6 December 1990 – enters the monastic life at Crasna Monastery (Prahova County);
• 16 December 1990 – is ordained hierodeacon at the Saint Spyridon Cathedral in Bucharest, by His Beatitude Patriarch Theoctist;
• 24 March 1991 – is ordained hieromonk at the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Beatitude Patriarch Theoctist;
• 24 May 1992 – is raised at the rank of protosyngellos at the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Beatitude Patriarch Theoctist;
• 15 March 1994 – is raised to the rank of archimandrite at Antim Monastery in Bucharest, by His Grace Teofan Sinaitul, Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop.
• 22 March 1994 – he is elected Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest with the title of Snagoveanul;
• 3 April 1994 – is ordained bishop by His Beatitude Patriarch Theoctist, along with a host of hierarchs;
• 1999 – obtains a doctorate in Theology with the thesis: Cartea psalmilor și importanța ei în viața pastoral-misionară a Bisericii (The Book of Psalms and its importance in the pastoral-missionary life of the Church);
• 21 February 2001 – is elected Archbishop of Tomis by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, being enthroned on 8 April 2001;
• 2005 – obtains a doctorate in Music with the thesis: Sfânta Scriptură în muzică și muzica în Sfânta Scriptură (The Holy Scripture in Music and Music in the Holy Scripture).
