BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on October 19, 1959, son of Constantin and Teofana Savu, in Corbi, Argeș County. He was baptized Dumitru.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1966-1974 – attended secondary school in Corbi, Argeș County;
  • 1974-1979 – attends the Orthodox High Theological Seminary “St. Gregory the Theologian” in Craiova;
  • 1980-1984 – studies at the Theological Institute of University Degree in Bucharest, where he defends his bachelor thesis entitled: Voturile monahale în lumina desăvârșirii creștine (The monastic vows in the light of Christian perfection);
  • December 1984 – he joined Crasna Hermitage – Sinaia Monastery, Prahova County;
  • 14 July 1985 – he became a monk at the Crasna Hermitage – Sinaia Monastery, Prahova County;
  • 8 September 1985 – ordained hieromonk, and on 14 September 1985 – ordained a hieromonk by His Grace Vasile of Târgoviște, Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop;
  • 1986-1990 – studies at the Theological Institute “Saint Serge” in Paris, obtaining a doctorate in Theology with the thesis: La divino-humanité du Christ et la déification de l’homme dans l’oevre du Saint Maxim le Confesseur;
  • 1987-1990 – is a confessor at the Protection of the Theotokos Monastery in Bussy en Othe (France);
  • July 1990 – September 1991 – Secretary to the Patriarchal Office;
  • 2 September 1991 – elected Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop;
  • 14 September 1991 – ordained Archimandrite, and on 15 September 1991 ordained Patriarchal Assistant-Bishop by His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the Cathedral of Spyridon the New in Bucharest;
  • 1994-2000 – serves as Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church;
  • 2 October 2000 – elected Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan of Oltenia;
  • October 22, 2000 – he was enthroned as Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan of Oltenia in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Demetrius in Craiova;
  • March 4, 2008 – elected Archbishop of Jassy and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina;
  • June 8, 2008 – was enthroned as Archbishop of Jassy and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Jassy.
