BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on May 13, 1971, to Gheorghe and Maria Roman, in Desești, Maramureș County. He was baptized Petru.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1977-1985 – attended primary school in Desești, Maramureș County;
  • 1985-1989 – student at the Industrial High School No. 2 in Sighetul Marmației, Maramureș County;
  • 1989-1992 – attended the Orthodox Theological Seminary in Cluj-Napoca;
  • 5 November 1991 – he joins the Monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God-Nicula, Cluj County;
  • 1992-1996 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at the “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca;
  • 1996 – he obtains the licentiate degree from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Cluj-Napoca, in the Department of Moral Theology, with the thesis entitled: “Familia și monahismul în viața Bisericii” (Family and Monasticism in the Life of the Church);
  • 8 March 1992 – he is tonsured into monasticism, receiving the name Teofil;
  • 25 March 1992 – ordained hierodeacon, and on 16 July 1992 ordained a hieromonk for the Nicula Monastery;
  • 1995-2008 – he served as the spiritual father of the “Izvorul Tămăduirii” (“Lifegiving Spring”) Monastery in Salva, Bistrița-Năsăud County;
  • 1998 – is elevated to the rank of protosyncellus;
  • 1998-2002 – fulfils the office of President of the Diocesan Monastic Consistory;
  • 2002-2008 – he holds the position of exarch of the monasteries of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj;
  • 15 August 2002 – was elevated to the rank of archimandrite at Nicula Monastery, by His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church;
  • 2008-2018 – fulfils the duties of ecclesiarch of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cluj-Napoca and president of the Diocesan Monastic Consistory;
  • 15 February 2018 – is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as Assistant-Bishop of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Spain and Portugal, with the title de Iberia (of Iberia);
  • 15 April 2018 – is consecrated as Hierarch in the Episcopal Cathedral of The Entrance of the Virgin Mary into the Church in Madrid (Spain).
