BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 13 November 1966, son of Miron and Elena Aioanei, in the commune Rădășeni – Fălticeni, Suceava County. He received the baptism name of Cristinel-Gabriel.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1973-1981 – attends primary and secondary school in the town of Fălticeni, Suceava County;
  • 1981-1983 – graduates 9th and 10th grade at the “Nicu Gane” High School in Fălticeni, Suceava County;
  • 1984-1989 – attends the Orthodox Theological Seminary at the Neamț Monastery;
  • 17 December 1988 – he is tonsured a rasophore by His Grace Gherasim Cucoșel Vrânceanul, then Assistant-Bishop of the Diocese of Buzău;
  • 1 February 1989 – he is tonsured into monasticism by Archimandrite Bartholomeu Anania, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist, Locum tenens of the Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina;
  • 8 June 1989 (the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord) – he is ordained hierodeacon by His Grace Eftimie Luca, Bishop of Roman and Huși, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist, Locum tenens of the Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina;
  • July 1989 – starts his studies at the Theological Institute of University Level in Bucharest, being admitted first among the candidates of the Archdiocese of Jassy;
  • 1989-1990 – attends the first undergraduate year at the Theological Institute of University Level in Bucharest;
  • 30 December 1990 – is elevated to the rank of archdeacon at Văratec Monastery, by His Eminence Daniel, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina;
  • 1990-1993 – transfers himself, starting from the second year of undergraduate studies, at the newly established Theological Institute of University Level in Jassy, which eventually becomes the “Dumitru Stăniloae”  Faculty of Orthodox Theology” in Jassy, graduating in 1993 with an overall average of 9.00 and 10.00 for the bachelor’s thesis, defended at the Department of History of the Romanian Orthodox Church, under the guidance of Rev. Prof. Dr. Viorel Ioniță, Dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Jassy, with the title of the thesis: Schitul Vovidenia, tradiţie şi actualitate (Vovidenia Hermitage, Tradition and Actuality).
  • 14 October 1993 – is ordained hieromonk at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Jassy, by His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel and consecrated spiritual father a week later, by His Grace Calinic Botoșăneanul, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Jassy;
  • 21 November 1993 – is elevated to the rank of protosyncellus in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Jassy by His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel;
  • 1995-1996 – at the recommendation of His Eminence Daniel, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, attends a course in Modern Hellenic language at the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the University of Athens, serving during this period at the Saint Panteleimon Church in the Aharnon neighborhood of Athens;
  • 24 March 2002 – is elevated to the rank of archimandrite in the Vovidenia church in Jassy, metropolitan chapel, by His Eminence Daniel;
  • 2011-2014 – attends doctoral studies in Theology under the guidance of Rev. Prof. Dr. Constantin Pătuleanu, preparing the thesis with the theme: Istoria Aşezămintelor Româneşti de la Ierusalim, Iordan şi Ierihon (The History of Romanian Settlements in Jerusalem, Jordan and Jericho) defended at the “Justinian the Patriarch” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest, being awarded Summa cum laude honour;
  • 1 February 2014 – 29 September 2014 – he is the representative of the Romanian Patriarchate to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Superior of the Romanian Monastic Settlements in Jerusalem, Jordan and Jericho, being invested by His Eminence Metropolitan Nifon, Archbishop of Târgoviște and Patriarchal Exarch, on 3 February 2014, in the church of the Romanian Patriarchate Mission in Jerusalem;
  • 29 September 2014 – is elected Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest and consecrated bishop by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, along with 13 other hierarchs, in the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, on 30 October 2014;
  • 30 September 2014 – January 15, 2015 – Locum tenens of the Superior of the Romanian Monastic Establishments in Jerusalem, Jordan and Jericho;
  • 2016 – member of the Synodal Sub-committee for the canonization of Romanian saints;
  • 2017 – President of the Commission for the organization of the funeral service for King Mihai I of Romania;
  • 2018 – President of the Sub-committee for the preparation of the consecration ceremony of the National Cathedral;
  • 2024 – President of the Commission for the organization of the ceremonies on the 250th anniversary since the bringing to Bucharest of the relics of Saint Saint Demetrius the New (1774-2024).
