BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • He was born on 12 April 1975, son of Constantin and Maria Lauran, in Satu Mare, Satu Mare County. He was baptized with the name Felician.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 1981-1989 – attends primary and secondary school at School no. 6 in Satu Mare, Satu Mare County;
  • 1989-1993 – is pupil at “Ioan Slavici” Theoretical High School in Satu Mare, Satu Mare County;
  • 1991 – graduates Church singing courses at the Romanian Orthodox Seminary in Baia Mare, Maramureș County;
  • 1993-1997 – studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at the “Babes-Bolyai” University, Cluj-Napoca;
  • June 1997 – he obtains the Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Cluj-Napoca, at the Department of Canonic Law, with the thesis: Validitatea hirotoniilor anglicane în contextul relaţiilor dintre Biserica Ortodoxă şi Biserica Anglicană (The Validity of Anglican Ordinations in the Context of the Relations between the Orthodox Church and the Anglican Church);
  • 24 March 1998 – he is tonsured into monasticism by the Venerable Father Archimandrite Vasile Flueraș, and on 25 March 1998 he is ordained hierodeacon by His Grace Irineu, Assistant-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj at the Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Nicula;
  • 14 June 1998 – is ordained a hieromonk by His Eminence Bartolomeu Anania, Archbishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj, at the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross – Cluj-Napoca;
  • 14 June 1998 – March 1999 – he is a priest at the Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Nicula, Cluj County;
  • 1998-1999 – studies at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Cluj-Napoca;
  • March – May 1999 – follows a French language internship at the Protection of the Theotokos Monastery of in Bussy en Othe (France);
  • October 1999 – January 2001 – is a spiritual father at the Protection of the Theotokos Monastery of in Bussy en Othe (France);
  • 1999-2000 – MA at the Institute of Orthodox Theology “Saint Serge” in Paris (France);
  • 15 August 2000 – is raised to the rank of protosyncellus by His Eminence Bartolomeu, Archbishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj, the Dormition the Theotokos Monastery in Nicula.
  • 2001-2013 – attends doctoral studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Cluj-Napoca;
  • January 2001 – defends his MA’s dissertation in a public session at the Faculty of Theology “Saint Serge” in Paris: Les vêtements monastiques chez les Pères de l’ Eglise el leurs symbolismes;
  • February 2001 – February 2002 – is secretary and ecclesiarch of the Dormition the Theotokos Monastery in Nicula;
  • February 2002 – April 2004 – he is a spiritual father at the Nativity of Theotokos Monastery of the in Ciucea, Cluj County;
  • 2002 – 2004 – editor and technical assistant at Radio Renașterea in Cluj-Napoca;
  • April 2004 – October 2005 – priest at the Ascension of the Holy Cross Monastery in Malvialle (France);
  • 2004 – 2008 – priest at the parish the Protection of the Theotokos Monastery in Toulouse (France);
  • 2005-2008 – fulfils the duties of Exarch of the monasteries of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe;
  • 2005-2008 – is abbot at the Dormition of Theotokos Vilar in Villellongue dels Monts (France);
  • 15 March 2008 – is raised to the rank of archimandrite by His Eminence Iosif Pop, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, at the church of the Saint Paraskevi and Saint Genevieve parish in Paris (France);
  • 5 March 2008 – following the decision on establishing the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Spain and Portugal, he is elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Spain and Portugal, being consecrated on 25 March 2008 by His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, together with several Romanian and foreign hierarchs, in the church of the Saint Great Martyr George parish in Alcala de Henares (Spain);
  • 30 September 2013 – defends his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at the “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj – Napoca, entitled: Orthodoxy and Heresy in the Early Church. Lessons for Today, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Prof. Dr. Vasile Leb.
